How do electric standing desk or sit stand desks work?

Most electric standing desks have brushed or brushless motors. This small DC (direct current) motor is activated by the controller to raise, stop or lower the table post.

How much power does the electric motor use for a standing desk?

Electric motors used in standing desks need to be able to smoothly raise and lower loads of up to 200 pounds or more. These small DC motors offer high power density.

Brushed motors are fairly simple and cheap, but are a bit slow due to limited high-speed torque. Also, the brushes are worn and the motor needs to be repaired, and the motor can be a bit loud. Brushless motors provide instant response without lag when you push a button, and these motors are more efficient, durable and produce less noise than traditional brushed motor drivers.

The power of an electric desk motor only matters if it translates into an important factor in operating the desk - regulating speed and weight capacity. Ideally, the desktop motor should be powerful enough to move any load on the desktop so quickly that you won't even notice.
